No Reasonable Solution for Syria without Iran: FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underscored that resolving the situation in Syria would not be possible without Iran’s participation in international efforts to end the crisis.
“International efforts for ending the Syrian crisis, which is rooted in foreign intervention and supporting extremist groups, have been underway for quite some time,” Zarif said upon arrival at Vienna airport on Thursday.
“Apparently, those taking part in these efforts have reached the conclusion that without Iran’s participation, it is not possible to come to a reasonable and logical solution for Syria,” he added.
Iran’s top diplomat is in the Austrian capital to attend an international meeting on Syria.
A number of world powers and regional countries, including Russia, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates on Friday will hold talks in Vienna on ways to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.
Zarif further said the Islamic Republic of Iran has always insisted that only the Syrian people should decide on the future of the country and that others should avoid meddling in its affairs.
The way should be paved for national unity and cooperation among Syrian groups in the fight against extremism and terrorism, he also stated.
Zarif went on to say that Iran is attending the Vienna meeting to present its views and offer strategies for reaching a solution for the crisis in Syria.
