India’s KIOCL Keen to Resume Exports to Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – India’s Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL) announced it is ready to resume exports of pellets to Iran after a 10-year gap.

To start with, the state-owned company will export 1 million tons per annum, Indian business newspaper Financial Express quoted a top company official as saying on Saturday.

“We are offering our plant for Iranian buyers under the 'Make in India' program. For the current financial year, we will import half a million ton iron ore with 67.2% Fe content from Anglo American. We will convert it into pellets at our Mangaluru plant and export to Iran,” said Malay Chatterjee, chairman and managing director of the KIOCL.

Back on August 22, the company said it would soon enter into a pact with Gol Gohar Mines Corporation, one of the largest ones in Iran.

"The first shipment of 50,000 tons of iron ore fines from Gol Gohar mines in Iran is expected to arrive in September this year. KIOCL would make pellets from the fines. We are going to sign an agreement shortly with Gol Gohar mines wherein KIOCL would source one million tons of iron ore fines every year," Chatterjee said at the time.

KIOCL has iron ore mines in the south Indian state of Karnataka and a pelletization plant in Mangalore.
