US-Lebanese Man Arrested in Iran for Espionage: Sources
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An American-Lebanese man linked to the US military and intelligence agencies has recently been arrested in Iran, IRIB cited informed sources as saying Tuesday.
The man, named Nizar Zakka, is an IT expert who “has deep ties to the US intelligence and military establishment,” IRIB news agency quoted an unnamed source as saying.
Lebanese media reported last week that Zakka had disappeared on Sept. 18 after attending a conference in Tehran.
The arrest came it was announced earlier in the day that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization has captured members of an illegal network affiliated with the US and British governments.
Members of the network, who worked with Western governments, were active in the Iranian media and cyberspace. Their activities had been monitored for months before they were taken into custody.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has on many occasions called for enhanced alertness of Iranian officials in the face of the plots hatched by the enemies for infiltration into Iran.
Vigilance against the enemy’s attempts to find a way into Iran via a complicated and gradual plot is an absolute necessity, Imam Khamenei said back in August in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet members in Tehran.
