Iran to Decide on Committee to Monitor JCPOA Tomorrow

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani announced that the council will hold a session tomorrow night to select members of a committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of a recent nuclear deal finalized by Tehran and world powers.

Shamkhani noted that during a Wednesday night SNSC session, decisions will be made on members of the Committee to Monitor and Supervise Implementation of JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).

Earlier on November 1, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had noted that the Foreign Ministry would closely cooperate with the committee, saying any action regarding the JCPOA will be taken based on the decisions made by the committee.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei ordered the formation of the committee on October 21.

The existence of complexities and ambiguities in the JCPOA and the possibility of breach of commitments and deception on the part of the other side, especially the US, necessitate that a strong, observant and smart committee be formed to monitor the progress of works, fulfilment of the other side’s commitments and realization of the observations mentioned, Ayatollah Khamenei stated in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani.

The committee’s arrangement and responsibilities should be formulated and approved by the SNSC, Imam Khamenei added at the time.
