Iran Expects IAEA Impartiality in PMD Report: Envoy
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) called on the UN nuclear watchdog to take an even-handed approach in preparing an upcoming report about the so-called PMD (possible military dimensions) in Iran’s nuclear case.
“As we have provided (the IAEA with) the past information about our country’s nuclear program, we expect the agency to give a report on the basis of facts, not according to false information that certain Western countries give against our country,” Reza Najafi told reporters in Tehran on Tuesday.
He underlined that Iran has fulfilled all commitments under a road-map it signed with the IAEA on July 14, noting that an IAEA statement on October 15 confirmed that Iran has abided by the agreement.
As part of the Road-map, the IAEA is required to finish its investigations about Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the agency’s Board of Governors by December 15.
Najafi further announced that Iran and the UN nuclear agency are going to hold a meeting to review and conclude all issues before the IAEA releases its final report, which he predicted to be sometime in late November.
The Road-map between Iran and the IAEA was signed on the same day that Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Iran’s commitments under the lasting nuclear deal.
The agreement was officially adopted on October 18, and is going to take effect within the next few weeks, after the IAEA releases its final report.
