Iran’s Larijani Slams West’s Double-Standard Human Rights Policies
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani lashed out at Western countries for their dual policies on human rights, saying the issue is used as a pretext to create chaos in the Middle East.
“The issue of human rights has turned into an excuse for certain countries, and they are trying to take advantage of it to disrupt the order and security of (regional) countries,” Larijani said.
He made the remarks in a Monday meeting with visiting Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal who is in Tehran to attend the ongoing Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit.
“Conflicts in Islamic countries provide the opportunity for certain states to create a safety margin for themselves, because the countries engaged in civil war would not have any chance to pay attention to international issues and are busy establishing security in their own country,” Larijani said.
On the other hand, he added, these conflicts give the chance to domination-seeking countries to interfere in other countries’ domestic affairs and expand their realm by dispatching forces.
“Unfortunately, because of the supports certain regional countries provided for terrorism, they (expansionist countries) have managed to disrupt the region’s security,” Larijani noted.
Sellal, for his part, underlined the need for cooperation between countries in the fight against Daesh (also known as ISIL) and terrorism in general, saying such terrorist groups as Daesh taint the image of Islam.
“The leaders of Islamic countries should act vigilantly and prevent domestic and international conflicts so that Westerners who are seeking to exploit such situations would not be able to achieve their goals,” he added.
