Iran’s President Renews Call for Universal Fight against Terror

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed on Tuesday that the entire would should recognize the seriousness of the threat of terrorism, and urged a concerted and global campaign against extremism and terrorism.

“Terrorism, as an infectious disease, threatens all countries and regions in the world, and a serious and universal fight against it is necessary,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari here in Tehran.

The Iranian president regretted that certain countries are using terrorism as a tool to advance their agendas, adding that everyone should understand that terrorism is a universal danger.

All countries in the region and the world should have cooperation and consultation in the fight against terrorism, he added.

Iran’s president further said that terrorist groups are committing their crimes in the name of Islam, while their mission is to denigrate the religion. “All of us are thus responsible for dealing with the big danger,” he added.

Rouhani also pointed to Tehran’s great experiences in fighting terrorism, and stressed that Iran is ready to transfer its experiences to friendly countries like Nigeria.

“Iran and Nigeria have common views and goals with regard to regional issues and the campaign against terrorism,” President Rouhani went on to say.

Buhari, for his part, praised Iran’s “vital and special” role in international security, saying, “It is known to the entire world today that terrorism knows no borders.”

The Nigerian president further called terrorism “a general and pervasive danger”, and underlined the necessity for fighting the universal threat.
