US in No Position to Talk about Human Rights in Iran: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri highlighted the US government’s rights violations against the American people and others, saying US officials have no right to question the status of human rights in other countries.

“While there is not a day or a week passing without some American people holding rallies against the US government’s violence, the country’s officials have no right to speak about the status of human rights in other countries.”

He made the remarks in reaction to a press statement recently released by US Secretary of State John Kerry, in which Kerry criticized the human rights situation in Iran and some other countries.

General Jazayeri dismissed the allegations raised by Kerry against Iran, saying the US and certain European states use the issue of human rights as a leverage against governments and nations that oppose them.

He also referred to the US administration’s crimes committed in different parts of the world, including invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, supporting the Zionist regime of Israel, creating terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL) and supporting Saudi atrocities in Yemen, saying Washington, via its armed forces and its mercenaries, continues shedding blood and destroying infrastructures of nations.

The US government, therefore, not only lacks any qualification to discuss the issue of human rights, but should actually be prosecuted for war crimes, the senior Iranian commander further stated.
