US Activists Hold New Protest Over Acquittal of Cops Who Killed Tamir Rice

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Up to 100 protesters gathered at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio to protest the acquittal of two police officers in the shooting death of 12-year-old African American Tamir Rice.

On Tuesday afternoon, the protestors held hands and chanted slogans for more than an hour at a Cleveland intersection as night fell including "The circle shall not be broken."

The non-violent protest followed a controversial decision by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury on Monday not to indict police officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback on murder charges after they shot and killed Rice on November 22, 2014, Sputnik News reported.

Right before he was killed, Rice had been playing in a park with a toy gun. Defense attorneys in the case successfully argued the officers’ actions could therefore not be interpreted as being criminal since there was no way of telling whether the boy’s toy gun was not real.
