Iran to Inaugurate South Pars Phases 15, 16 Tomorrow
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Two major development phases of Iran’s South Pars gas field, which are the first constructed and put into operation by domestic experts, will officially come into operation on Monday in a ceremony with President Hassan Rouhani in attendance, a gas official announced.
Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday, Managing-Director of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) Mahdi Yousefi said five refineries of the South Pars gas field have so far become fully operational.
Tomorrow, in a ceremony attended by President Rouhani, the phases 15 and 16 of the South Pars will be inaugurated and connected to national grid as the sixth and seventh refineries of the gas field, he added.
The official further emphasized that these two phases are the first ones whose construction, installment and operation have been fully carried out by Iranian experts.
The South Pars gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
South Pars is part of a wider gas field that is shared with Qatar. The larger field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters (South Pars) in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, referred to as the North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.
According to the 64th Edition of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy released in June, Iran is the world's top gas reserves holder with 33.8 trillion cubic meters.
