Finnish Agriculture Minister Due in Iran for Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Environment Kimmo Tiilikainen will pay a visit to Iran on Saturday to sign an agreement on the protection of the environment and hold talks with a number of top state officials.
Heading a trade delegation, the Finnish minister will stay in Iran until March 2.
Mr. Tiilikainen’s visit is seen as part of Finland’s efforts to boost exports to Iran in the field of agriculture, park construction technology and food industry after termination of the anti-Iran sanctions under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
As a keynote speaker, the Finnish minister will also deliver an address at the opening of the 15th International Exhibition of Iran Environment.
At a meeting with Head of Iran's Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar, the Scandinavian minister is going to ink an environmental agreement.
Tiilikainen is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with Iran’s Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian and Mayor of Tehran Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
Earlier in January, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland’s Davos to explore avenues for the expansion of bilateral relations.
There has been growing enthusiasm for closer ties with Iran after the JCPOA took effect on January 16, terminating all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
