US Air Force Base under Lockdown due to Reported Active Shooter

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Joint Base Andrews in Maryland is on lockdown amid reports an active shooter is on the military base.

The US military tweeted: “JBA is currently on lockdown due to a report of an active shooter. All personnel are directed to shelter in place.

The military said “The incident is ongoing at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility. First responders are on-scene now. All personnel continue to shelter in place,” The Washington Times reported.

The base was scheduled to conduct an active shooter exercise, however, reports of a real-world active shooter situation were reported at Malcolm Grow medical facility, base officials posted on Facebook.

The military base was placed on lockdown just before 9 a.m.

Joint Base Andrews is located around 20 miles outside of downtown Washington, D.C. and hosts aircraft used by US President Barack Obama.

The president flew into Andrews on Air Force One around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday on his return from a summit in Canada.

During a Senate hearing, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson interrupted his testimony to tell lawmakers that “we have an unfolding situation” at Andrews “which may require that I take a break” from the hearing.
