S-300 to Become Operational in Iran by March 2017: Commander
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Air Defense will bring the Russian-made S-300 air defense missile system into operation until end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2017), a top commander said Friday.
The S-300 missile system is being stationed in Iran, Commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili told reporters at a rally in Tehran on Friday morning, held to mark the International Quds Days.
He added that Iran is now receiving shipments of the missile system, which he said will become operational by the end of this Iranian year.
Back in April, Iran displayed part of the S-300 missile system in a military parade in Tehran, held to mark the National Army Day.
The gear unveiled in the ceremony included 2 radar systems of S-300, its carrier and command vehicles as well as the crane for lifting its missiles.
Iran has been long waiting to receive the air defense missile system it had purchased from Russia in 2007.
