Iran Summons Egyptian Envoy to Protest Presence of MPs in MKO Meeting
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the caretaker of Egypt’s Interests Section in Tehran to protest at several Egyptian lawmakers’ move to attend an anti-Iran rally recently held in Paris by the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO).
In a meeting with the Egyptian diplomat on Wednesday, Hamid Reza Dehqani, an official with Iran’s Foreign Ministry, voiced Tehran’s strong protest against “Egypt’s act of interference and support for the MKO”.
Dehqani said the Egyptian MPs’ participation in the anti-Iran gathering in Paris was a clear sign of interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
He further called on Egypt’s officials to adopt a more responsible policy in line with preserving peace and stability in the Middle East region.
The Egyptian lawmakers attended the MKO terrorists’ meeting in the French capital on Saturday.
The MKO - listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community - fled Iran in 1986 for Iraq and was given a camp by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
They fought on the side of Saddam during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-88).
They were also involved in the bloody repression of Shiite Muslims in southern Iraq in 1991 and the massacre of Iraqi Kurds.
The notorious group is also responsible for killing thousands of Iranian civilians and officials after the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979.
More than 17,000 Iranians, many of them civilians, have been killed at the hands of the MKO in different acts of terrorism including bombings in public places, and targeted killings.
