Iran’s Auto Market Promising: Japanese Trade Adviser
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The adviser in charge of the Middle East at the Japan External Trade Organization in Tokyo said automotive demand in Iran is promising due to its population.
“Iran is a country which has been already producing automobiles and is not an export market for completed cars,” said Yoichi Yamamoto as cited by the Japan Times on Tuesday.
He added, “In this sense, Iran would be a production foothold for the domestic market and its neighboring countries”.
Iran has the largest automotive industry in the Middle East. The auto industry is the second largest source of foreign currency and foreign technology for Iran after oil.
Back in January, an industry official said car manufacturers from six countries are set to participate in Iran’s auto market.
The spokesman of Iran’s Auto Policy-Making Council, a regulatory body under Iranian Ministry of Mines and Industry, told reporters at the time that companies from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Turkey will take part in Iran’s auto market.
The official added that companies from Japan and Italy might have a more pronounced role to play in the future market.
