Turkey to Make Proposal to Revive Syrian Cease-Fire: Erdogan Spokesman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkey will make a proposal to revive the Syrian cease-fire deal and President Tayyip Erdogan may speak by telephone on the issue with US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Erdogan's spokesman said.
Ibrahim Kalin also told broadcaster Haberturk in an interview that Ankara stands with Saudi Arabia in opposition to a US law allowing citizens to sue the kingdom over the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, saying it threatened nations' sovereignty, Reuters reported.
The United States broke off talks with Russia on Monday on implementing a ceasefire agreement in Syria, accusing Moscow of not living up to its commitments under a deal to halt fighting.
Moscow says it does not accept responsibility for the breakdown in cooperation, and says it has done everything to sustain the peace process, including implementing a 72-hour ceasefire late last month that should have ensured the delivery of humanitarian aid to Aleppo, the site of the most intense fighting between government forces and opposition factions.
