Army Discovers Network of Tunnels near Damascus, Inflicts Losses on Terrorists across Syria
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian forces discovered a network of tunnels dug by Takfiri groups near Damascus as they continue to clear more areas of terrorist groups.
Syrian troops on Monday unearthed several tunnels, including one 700 meters long, used by the terrorists in al-Maranah town, east of Khan al-Sheh in Damascus countryside, the official SANA news agency reported.
Large groups of the terrorists were killed inside the tunnels as they were blown up.
In a separate development, Syrian warplanes targeted terrorists’ positions in the areas of Khan al-Asal, Mansoura, Rashideen and Maskanah in Aleppo countryside, killing and injuring scores of them.
Additionally, the army troops inflicted heavy losses on militants in al-Nazihin Camp and al-Kark neighborhood in Daraa al-Balad area in the southern province of Daraa, killing and injuring dozens of them.
Also, the army air force killed several terrorists and destroyed their armored vehicles in Maranah, Karfous and Kabana in the coastal province of Latakia.
Separately, an army unit targeted sites and gatherings of terrorists in Talbeisa located in northern countryside of the western city of Homs, killing scores of the terrorists and destroying their weapons and ammunition.
Since March 2011, Syria has been hit by militancy and terrorism backed by Western states and their regional allies.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
