Iran Air, Boeing Finalize Deal on Purchase of 80 Aircraft

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chairman of Iran Air said the flag carrier has finalized an initial deal with US aircraft maker Boeing to purchase 80 passenger planes.

“Today, we signed a document with Boeing to buy 80 planes within 10 years,” Farhad Parvaresh said during the signing ceremony in Tehran on Sunday.

He added that the first deliveries are expected in 2018.

The agreement envisages the purchase of 50 twinjet narrow-body Boeing 737 planes and 30 long-range wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft at a total cost of $16.6 billion.

Iran signed the initial plane purchase agreement with Boeing earlier this year, following the removal of anti-Iran sanctions with the coming into force of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The US Treasury Department has given the green light to Boeing to sell planes to Iran.
