Syria Army Retakes Control of Key Crossroads in Homs
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies regained control of a strategic crossroads in the central province of Homs.
On Friday, Syrian troops stepped up their attacks on Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Homs and managed to wrest control of the strategic crossroads of al-Qaryatain in the eastern countryside of Homs, a military source told Syria’s official news agency, SANA.
Large groups of the terrorists were killed and several of their vehicles destroyed in the process of the clashes.
Additionally, the Syrian government forces seized control of Beir al-Mor, southeast of the T4 Airport, in Homs countryside.
According to the source, Syrian warplanes also killed scores of Daesh terrorists after targeting their positions in the areas of al-Mashtal, al-Heer al-Gharbi Castle, and Jbab Hamad in the province’s eastern countryside.
Separately, Syrian and Russian fighter jets pounded the gathering centers of Daesh militants near the district of al-Ummal in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
