Three Bodies Found after Avalanche Northeast of Tehran

DAMAVAND (Tasnim) – Three bodies have been retrieved from four vehicles trapped in a snow avalanche hitting a mountainous region northeast of the capital, Tehran, a senior official at the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said on Friday.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Head of IRCS in Tehran Province Hossein Ketabdar said last night, several vehicles were trapped in a snow avalanche in Mobarak Abad in Abali region, a ski resort in the province.

“Up to now, three bodies have been pulled out of four vehicles trapped in the avalanche,” he said, adding that the IRCS has dispatched its detection dogs and bioradars to the disaster-hit area.

The IRCS official also said a helicopter has been sent to the area, saying there is a possibility that more vehicles have been stuck in the region.

Ketabdar said unfortunately, the head of Road and Urban Development Organization of Roudehen and Pardis is among the dead in the incident, whose body has been found.

The incident came as snow storms have hit 24 provinces of the country over the past few days.

Some 29,000 people received rescue and relief services in 241 cities, towns and villages and 2,010 were accommodated, Head of the Relief and Rescue Organization of the IRCS Morteza Salimi said.
