Iran, Sweden Ink 5 MoUs to Boost Cooperation in Diverse Fields
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials from Iran and Sweden signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in a bid to deepen bilateral relations and boost cooperation in various fields.
The documents were signed in a ceremony in Tehran on Saturday with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in attendance.
The five agreements feature cooperation in science and technology, higher education and research, road construction, telecommunications, and women and family.
Heading a senior diplomatic delegation, Lofven arrived in Tehran on Saturday morning in a landmark visit to the Islamic Republic.
The Swedish prime minister was received by Rouhani in a formal welcome ceremony, which was followed by a meeting of high-ranking delegations between the two countries.
The meeting was reportedly aimed at finding ways to boost mutual cooperation in different areas and stimulate Tehran-Stockholm relations.
Lofven will have a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in the evening.
In November 2016, Swedish Deputy Foreign Minister Annika Soder had announced that a number of agreements would be signed during the prime minister’s visit to Iran.
Europe’s industrial powers have shown great enthusiasm for closer trade ties with Iran since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany), came into force in January 2016.
