Iran: Syria Peace to Serve Palestine
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the positive impact that settlement of the Syria crisis will have on Palestine, saying one of the main reasons behind pressures on the Syrian nation in recent years has been Damascus’ support for Palestinians.
Establishment of peace and stability in Syria will benefit Palestine and the whole region, President Rouhani said at a meeting with Speaker of the People's Council of Syria Hadiya Khalaf Abbas, held in Tehran on Wednesday.
The president also described backing for the goals of Palestinians as a main reason behind the pressures and tough conditions that Syria has had to face in the past years.
He further lauded the “very positive developments” in Syria in the fight against terrorism in recent months, saying the Damascus government’s victories have changed the international attitude towards the Arab country and forced many parties to acknowledge the realities on the ground.
Khalaf Abbas, for her part, praised the close coordination between Syria and Iran in the war on terrorism.
As regards the ongoing international conference on Palestinian Intifada in Tehran, the Syrian speaker said such a gathering could foil attempts by many Western and Arab states at consigning the issue of Palestine to oblivion.
Around 700 foreign officials and intellectuals, including 18 parliament speakers, are in Tehran taking part in the international conference on Palestine. The two-day gathering is also attended by representatives of anti-Israeli Palestinian resistance groups.
