UAE Commander Killed in Yemeni Missile Attack: Report
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of Saudi-led Emirati troops in Yemen was killed in a missile attack by the Arab country’s forces, a report said.
Yemeni forces launched a missile attack against Riyadh-backed militiamen loyal to the former government in the Red Sea port city of Mokha, Taizz province, killing dozens of them, including the Emiriati commander identified as Nasser Moshabib al-Atibi, Lebanon's al-Mayadeen news channel reported on Wednesday.
Major General Ahad Saif al-Yafei, the second-in-command of the Saudi-backed military forces, was also among the dead.
Emirati officials have not made any comments on the report yet.
ٍEarlier, Yemen’s army,a in retaliatory attack against the Saudi-led coalition forces, killed three Saudi servicemen and a number of mercenaries of the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi in Mokha.
They were killed after the Yemeni forces fired a homegrown ballistic missile dubbed “Zelzal-2” at the positions of the mercenaries of Hadi in the port city on Monday.
The missile attacks are in response to the aggression launched by Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies in March 2015.
The Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement since then in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Some 11,000 Yemenis, including women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
