Syria Army Recaptures Key Area in Homs
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s army and its allies pushed ahead with their military campaign against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Homs, managing to retake a key area in the central province.
A military source told SANA Thursday that the army units carried out military operations targeting Daesh terrorists’ gatherings in the eastern countryside of Homs and established full control over al-Mazar Mountains chain, about 15 kilometers east of the ancient city of Palmyra.
The operation eliminated scores of Daesh terrorists and destroyed their weapons, according to the source.
Separately, the army targeted the positions of the Daesh militants in the areas of al-Thurda, al-Makabat, and Talet Alloush in the western province of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting heavy losses upon them.
Additionally, the Syrian government forces launched several operations against the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front) terrorist group in the areas of al-Kark, al-Seibeh, al-Bahar, al-Arbaeen, Haret al-Bado, Haret al-Fern and al-Masri in the Dara’a al-Balad district of the southwestern city of Dara’a, located about 90 kilometers south of Damascus, leaving 21 militants dead and injured.
Over the past six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the Syrian crisis until then. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
