Manhunt for Daesh Members in Iraq Filmed in Tunnel
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – As Iraqi forces are closing in on members of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in Iraq’s northern city of Tal Afar, Tasnim could shoot a video of an operation by the Popular Mobilization Units in the hunt for militants in underground passages dug on the outskirts of the city.
In the operation in a mountainous area near Tal Afar, 65 kilometers west of Mosul, members of the Iraqi voluntary forces, known as the Popular Mobilization Units or Hashid al-Shaabi, discovered a tunnel that Daesh terrorists have dug under the ground to launch surprise attacks or hide from Iraqi military forces.
A Tasnim reporter accompanied the Hashid al-Shaabi fighters in the operation and was allowed to do a short interview with one of the arrested extremists.
The airport of Tal Afar is currently in control of the Iraqi forces, and a military operation to recapture the entire city is in progress.
Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the Daesh terrorist group.
Daesh militants made advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.
