Iran Eyes Strategic Ties with India
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan highlighted the far-reaching impacts of military and defense cooperation with India on regional security, stressing that Tehran and New Delhi could work together at a strategic level.
“Promotion of cooperation between Iran and India in the political, military and security fields could remarkably help upgrade the regional security status and would have a significant effect on enhancement of sustainable peace and stability,” the Iranian defense minister said in a meeting with his Indian counterpart Arun Jaitley, held in Moscow.
Dehqan also called for promotion of the bilateral ties to “a strategic level”, saying Iran and India can interact in the fight against extremism, terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and piracy, and can also exchange experiences in various fields.
For his part, Jaitley highlighted India’s decisive approach against terrorism, saying New Delhi sees no obstacles to cooperation with Tehran in the anti-terror efforts.
The ground in now prepared for closer defense and security cooperation between Iran and India, he added.
The two ministers are in Russia to attend the 6th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS).
Counterterrorism and counterradicalism in the Middle East, security of information space, and security in Central Asia are in the spotlight of separate discussion sessions of the conference.
