Iran’s Islamic Revolution Inspiration for Iraq, Syria: IRGC Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi praised victories over terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria and said the Arab countries regard Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution as their role model in their anti-terrorism campaign.

In a speech on the southern island of Qeshm on Wednesday, Rear Admiral Fadavi highlighted Iran’s political and military power in the international arena and said the power that “God has bestowed to the Islamic Revolution” cannot be compared to other countries’ power.

“For about 40 years, we have stood against various powers, including the criminal US and its insolent allies, and this resistance continues and we will never bow down (to enemies),” the commander stressed.

“In Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and Syria the enemy was defeated because the countries are following the discourse of the Islamic Revolution as an inspirational role model,” he said.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it. However, the country has recently made major advances against the terrorists.

Iraq has also been plagued with terrorism over the past years. Earlier this month, Iraq declared the complete liberation of the northern city of Mosul some three years after the northern city fell to Daesh terrorists.

Daesh militants made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.

However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after Ayatollah Sistani issued the fatwa calling for the fight against the militants, blunted the edge of Daesh offensive and forced the terrorist group to withdraw from much of the areas it had occupied.
