Iran Sympathizes with Sierra Leone over Fatal Mudslides

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed condolences to Sierra Leone over deaths in severe floods and massive mudslides in the West African country.

Bahram Qassemi on Tuesday offered Iran’s sympathy to the Sierra Leonean government and nation over the natural disaster that has killed hundreds of people and displaced thousands in the coastal country in recent days.

Landslides and floods have wreaked havoc in Sierra Leone in recent days. The African nation faces the risk of more mudslides as torrential rains continue.

A spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Sierra Leone said authorities have recovered the bodies of 205 people and the number is expected to rise, with more than 1,000 others affected.
