FM Meets Iranian Expats in Uganda

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had a meeting with a group of Iranian expatriates living in Uganda as the first plan during his visit to the African country.

Delivering a speech to the Iranian people in Kampala on Tuesday evening, Foreign Minister Zarif hailed the Iranian expatriates as the country’s “assets” and “representatives of the great Iranian culture and civilization” around the world.

The senior diplomat arrived in Kampala on Tuesday after visiting South Africa.

Heading a political and economic delegation, the Iranian minister is going to visit Niger in the final leg of his African tour.

During his stay in Uganda, Zarif is planned to hold meetings with President Yoweri Museveni and Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa. The top Iranian diplomat will also attend the inauguration ceremony of a 50-bed hospital financed by Iran.

Expansion of relations with African nations in the political, economic and cultural fields have been top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy.
