Yemenis Stage Rally in Support of Palestinians
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hundreds of Yemeni people poured into the streets in the capital, Sana’a, to voice their support for the oppressed people of Palestine and condemn the Israeli regime’s continued occupation of the Palestinian territories.
The participants in the demonstration, held on Monday, expressed their solidarity with Palestinians on the occasion of the centenary of the Balfour Declaration, which paved the way for the creation of Israeli regime, the Arabic-language Al Mayadeen TV reported.
They chanted slogans against the declaration and condemned the Israeli regime’s occupation of the Palestinian territories.
Addressing the demonstrators, the president of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, said today’s rally proved that the people of the Arab country pays heed to the first issue of the Muslim world, that is Palestine.
British Prime Minister Theresa May recently said that she will celebrate the centenary of the Balfour Declaration with “pride”.
Many British people and politicians showed negative reaction to the UK government support for the Balfour Declaration.
On November 2, 1917, Balfour, Britain’s then foreign secretary, sent a 67-word communique to the Zionist leader Rothschild. The short note, which would be known as the Balfour Declaration, stated the UK’s support for “a national home for the Jewish people” and paved the way for the creation of the Israeli regime.
