Iran Condemns Saudi Airstrike on Yemen's Hajjah
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned an airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition on residential areas in north Yemen that killed at least 30 people on Tuesday night, slamming the muted response to such crimes as a blatant violation of human rights.
In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi condemned the Saudi bombing of areas in Yemen’s Hajjah, offering sympathy for the families of victims.
He also denounced as a “clear violation of human rights” the international community’s silence on such catastrophes, the nonstop Saudi air raids on Yemen, and blocking the humanitarian aids to the war-hit nation.
The spokesman then called on the United Nations and the other parties engaged in the Yemen crisis to accelerate efforts to bring an immediate end to the military attacks on Yemenis and take the necessary measures to protect civilians, particularly women and children.
Qassemi also attributed the intensified aerial offensive against Yemenis and blockade of the Arab country to “Saudi Arabia’s frustration and failure to achieve its purposes in invading Yemen.”
At least 30 Yemenis, including women and children, have been killed in a series of Saudi-led air strikes in north Yemen on Tuesday night.
Reports suggest that at least 16 airstrikes targeted the village of Hiran in Hajjah province on Tuesday, killing 30 people, including a family of 10.
Al Masirah TV channel said 10 paramedics were also killed.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Since then, more than 10,000 people have been killed, millions forced from their homes, and the country facing severe famine and a deadly cholera outbreak.
