Iranian Speaker Condemns Kabul Terrorist Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani strongly condemned a recent terrorist attack in the Afghan capital of Kabul that killed more than 100 people, voicing the Islamic Republic’s support for the Afghan nation in the fight against terrorism.

In separate messages to senior Afghan parliamentarians on Monday, Larijani expressed condolences to the Afghan government and nation after Saturday’s deadly bombing in Kabul.

In a message to Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the Wolesi Jirga or the lower house of Afghanistan’s National Assembly, Larijani reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to supporting the Afghan government and nation in the war on terrorism and in ensuring peace and security.

The Iranian speaker also sent a message to Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, chairman of Meshrano Jirga or the upper house of Afghan parliament, saying such brutal attacks highlight the need for concerted action against terrorism.

The Afghan government declared a national day of mourning after an ambulance packed with explosives blew up in a crowded street in Kabul on Saturday, killing 103 people.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which also injured 235 people, including 30 police officers. It came a week after militants stormed a Kabul hotel and killed scores in a 12-hour standoff.

In a separate attack on Monday, five militants targeted a military base in Kabul and killed 11 people.

More than 130 people have been killed in Afghanistan in four attacks over the past nine days.
