TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A ranking military delegation from Afghanistan has visited Iran for talks on the bilateral relations, defense cooperation and border issues.
The visiting delegation, led by Afghan Deputy Ministry of Defense for Policy and Strategy Tamim Assi, had a meeting with Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for International Affairs General Qadir Nezami in Tehran on Wednesday morning.
During his trip, the top Afghan official is going to meet Iran’s defense minister, border police commander, and the deputy foreign minister for political affairs.
Back in February, the defense ministers of Iran and Afghanistan called for efforts to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism given the relocation of terrorist groups from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan.
In June 2017, Iran and Afghanistan held the first round of talks on a comprehensive strategic partnership document as part of efforts to boost bilateral relations in various areas, including security, defense, economy, culture, and education.
