Iran, Azerbaijan Finalize 12 Agreements
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Delegations from Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan held a new session of a joint commission on mutual cooperation in Tehran, finalizing 12 agreements that the two sides had drafted in the past.
The 12th meeting of Iran-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Cooperation was held in Tehran on Tuesday, co-chaired by Iranian Economy Minister Masoud Karbasian and his Azeri counterpart Shahin Mustafayev.
Speaking at the event, Karbasian described the meeting, which would complete and finalize 12 agreements drafted in the previous rounds of bilateral talks, as being of great significance considering Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s upcoming visit to Azerbaijan.
The Iranian minister also said that the joint commission would discuss various issues through separate committees on economy, trade, industry and banking, transportation and communication, energy and environment, agriculture, science and research.
For his part, the Azeri minister expressed satisfaction that the Iranian president would visit his country during Nowruz, which he described as a common tradition of the two neighboring nations.
Mustafayev also noted that the Azeri delegation in the joint commission meeting includes 14 deputy ministers and five heads of organization.
Iran and Azerbaijan have ramped up efforts in recent years to forge closer partnership in various areas.
In February 2016, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to Tehran, during which the two sides signed eleven memorandums of understanding and agreements to promote mutual cooperation in a range of fields.
