Iran to Keep Supporting Syria until Eradication of Terrorism: Velayati
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ali Akbar Velayati, an international adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, reiterated Tehran’s continued support for Damascus in its campaign against terrorism and said by defending Syria and the Axis of Resistance, Iran is defending itself.
Speaking at a meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Tehran on Tuesday, Velayati offered his congratulations to the Syrian people and government on their recent victories in the war on terrorism.
He further emphasized that the Islamic Republic’s support for Syria will continue until the Arab country is completely cleared of terrorism.
Mekdad, for his part, said the achievements against terrorism in Syria have been gained thanks to the sacrifices of the Syrian army and the support of its allies, namely Iran, Hezbollah, and Russia.
He added that the victory over the Western-backed terrorism in Syria is a victory for the Middle East and the whole world.
In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly against Muslims in the region.
Iraq and Syria have been among the countries gripped by terrorism.
Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.
