Iran Team Kumite Wins Gold at World Championships
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian men's team kata claimed the gold medal of the 2018 World Karate Championships on Sunday.
The Iranian team defeated Turkey 3-2 in the final match.
On its way to winning gold medal, Iran defeated Jordan (3-1), Senegal (3-1), Armenia (3-0) and Italy (3-0).
The bronze medal went to Japan and Italy.
The 24th Karate World Championships are Karate's biggest event. Held every two years, the Karate Senior World Championships gather athletes from over a hundred countries in a thrilling quest to sports greatness.
The tournament took place at the WiZink Center sports hall in Madrid, Spain.
The competition acquired even greater importance since the Spanish capital hosted the last World Championships before Karate's debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The championships were the competition providing the highest number of points for athletes to qualify for the Olympic Games.
