Iran Parliament Preparing Package to Counter US Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Parliament’s Economic Commission is drawing up a package of measures to deal with the sanctions the US has imposed on the country after withdrawing from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, a lawmaker said.

Speaking to Tasnim, Chairman of the Economic Commission Mohammad Reza Poor Ebrahimi said his commission has held several meetings with representative of the Central Bank of Iran, Economy Ministry, and insurance and shipping companies to prepare the anti-sanctions plan.

He said the package has been finalized with the assistance of the Parliament’s Research Center and academic and research centers.

According to Poor Ebrahimi, it includes measures to counter the US sanctions against the shipping industry, insurance companies and basic commodities.

The US government imposed the second round of sanctions on Iran on November 4.

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal that was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The US had announced plans to drive Iran’s oil exports down to zero, but backed off from its policy and granted waivers to at least 8 countries that import Iranian oil.
