Good Decisions Taken for Iran’s Imports despite Sanctions: VP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri highlighted the US administration’s hostilities toward the Iranian nation and said Tehran has made appropriate decisions to counter Washington’s sanctions and pave the way for the imports of goods.

Addressing a meeting held in Tehran on Saturday to examine issues related to the country’s customs, Jahangiri said enemies of the Iranian nation aim to hamper the process of imports of commodities through imposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

“The enemies are seeking to make it difficult for the country to supply goods needed for the people by disrupting the foreign trade, and then create unrest and instability in the country,” he noted.

However, Jahangiri added, the Iranian administration has developed plans and taken appropriate decisions at various meetings so that goods are imported under any circumstances and the necessary goods are provided for the people.

The remarks came as tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since US President Donald Trump walked away from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May and re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

US officials have also repeatedly said they will cut Iran’s oil exports to zero.

Following the US exit from the nuclear deal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.

Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.

He said the US policy is to levy “maximum economic pressure” on the country.

The second batch of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic took effect on November 4.
