Iran Says in Talks with Taliban, Kabul Kept Abreast of Issue
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Afghan government has been kept informed of the ongoing talks between Iran and the Taliban, a senior Iranian officials said, noting that the dialogue, aimed at resolving the security problems in Afghanistan, will go on in future.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Taliban are engaged in negotiations to help settle the existing security problems in Afghanistan, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said in a meeting with Hamdullah Mohib, the National Security Advisor to Afghanistan’s president, held in Kabul on Wednesday.
“The series of (Iran’s) connections and negotiations with the Taliban have been held with the knowledge of the Afghan government, and this process will proceed,” Shamkhani added.
The Iranian official further warned of the “serious threat” of spread of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in Afghanistan, stressing the need for practical measures to counter the “ominous plot sponsored by the US and regional reactionary” regimes.
Shamkhani also emphasized the need to strengthen and increase the number of border posts to ensure security along the Iran-Afghanistan common border.
He further voiced Iran’s readiness for scientific cooperation with Afghanistan and for the transfer of technology to assist in the development of the neighboring state.
For his part, Mohib reaffirmed Afghanistan’s determination to fight against terrorism and establish sustainable security across the country, praising Iran as a pillar of establishment of security in the region.
He also underlined that Tehran-Kabul cooperation will greatly contribute to the resolution of security problems in Afghanistan.
The Afghan national security advisor expressed hope that the Iranian delegation’s visit to Kabul would accelerate the finalization of political, defense, security and economic agreements between the two countries and prepare them for presidential endorsement.
Accompanied by a number of senior Iranian security, military and political officials, Shamkhani arrived in Kabul on Wednesday morning for an official visit.
