Russia Closely Following Discussions in EU on Nord Stream-2: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Kremlin is closely following the discussions in the European Union on the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

"We are certainly aware of the discussions that are taking place in the European Union on this matter. We are very closely monitoring the situation," Peskov told reporters when asked whether various positions within the EU could affect the project implementation, Sputnik reported.

He said the Kremlin disagreed with the view that Nord Stream-2 would increase the EU's dependence on Russia, adding that the project was beneficial to both sides.

The spokesman said Nord Stream-2 was economically more expedient than any other route of gas delivery to the EU, being the most safe and stable route of gas supply to Europe.

Speaking about the US position on Nord Stream-2, he said it was incompatible with fair competition, adding that the United States was forcing Europeans to buy gas at a 30 percent higher price.
