President: Iran Will Never Surrender to US
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to stand against pressures and language of force, saying Iranians will never give in to the US.
Speaking at a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani said the Islamic Republic will vigorously keep to the path that it took 40 years ago.
Pointing to the economic and psychological wars that the US has waged against Iran, the president said, “This nation (Iran) will once again stand for its dignity, independence and prestige and refuses to surrender to the enemy, because surrender has no end.”
“If our nation gives in to the US, it will have to continue to concede forever, meaning that we will have to abandon our country, dignity, independence and identity,” he added.
Hailing the Iranian people for their huge turnout in Monday’s demonstrations marking the 40th anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution, the president stressed that Iranians will oppose invasion and pressures from the enemies.
He further added, “However, if somebody intends to hold talks and dialogue with us on a certain issue, we’ll always favor dialogue, discourse, logic… provided that they have respect for the country and for the international law and regulations.”
But Iran will never accept coercion, pressure and disrespect for its national interests, he concluded.
In comments in August 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei roundly dismissed the idea of negotiations with the US, saying dialogue with a bullying regime that uses talks as a tool for pursuing its hostile policies is forbidden and would be detrimental to Iran.
Pointing to the US government’s strategy for negotiations, the Leader said Iran can enter the “dangerous game” of negotiations with the US only when it achieves the desired might in the economic, political and cultural spheres and resist Washington’s strategy of propaganda campaign and pressures.
