Iran’s Petrochimi Beats Al Jaych at FIBA Asia Champions Cup WABA Qualifiers

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Reigning champion Petrochimi of Iran defeated Al Jaych of Syria 93-73 at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup WABA Qualifiers 2019 on Sunday.

Meysam Mirzaei was Iran’s topscorer with 21 points and Rami Merjaneh collected 24 points for Al Jaych.

The competition is being held in Baghdad, Iraq from March 10-14.

This is a monumental tournament for the Iraq capital, which is hosting its first major basketball event since 1988.

Another Iranian basketball team Chemidor will face Qalandia from Palestine on Monday.

The competition will qualify spots for champions of their respective countries in Round 1 of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, where four slots for teams from WABA are allocated. Therefore, the top four teams at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup WABA Qualifiers 2019 will each gain a qualifying spot for their respective country in the succeeding round.
