Iranian Cleric Brands US ‘Mother of Terrorism’
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top Iranian cleric condemned the “foolish” US president’s move to blacklist the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), saying the world has come to the conclusion that the United States is the mother of terrorism.
In an address to a gathering of Friday prayer-goers in Tehran, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani lashed out at Washington for designating the IRGC, an official military force of a foreign country, a terrorist group.
He said the “foolish” US president has violated all international laws by blacklisting the IRGC, noting that such measure would further complicate the situation in the Middle East.
“Today, it has been proved to people of the world, particularly to the regional nations, that mother of terrorism is the US,” the cleric added.
He then cautioned US President Donald Trump “not to play with the lion’s tail”, stressing that the IRGC could raze Tel Aviv to the ground with its missiles if Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei orders.
Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani also noted that Iran’s growing spiritual influence on West Asia, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen has angered Trump and made him stupid.
Trump announced on Monday that Washington is designating the IRGC a foreign “terrorist organization”, marking the first time the US has formally labelled another country's military a terrorist group.
Responding to the move, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council immediately declared the US as a state sponsor of terrorism and US forces in the region terrorists.
The SNSC said it has put CENTCOM on its terror list as a “reciprocal measure” against the US “illegal and unwise” move.
