President: Iran Ready to Boost Brotherly Ties with Qatar
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran highlighted Tehran’s practical support for Qatar in hard times, voicing the Islamic Republic’s readiness to keep up cooperation with the “friendly and brotherly” Arab nation.
"We have proved in action that we will stand with our Qatari brothers in hard times and we are ready to continue our cooperation with the friendly, brotherly country," Hassan Rouhani said in a telephone conversation with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday.
Describing the brotherly and growing relations between Iran and Qatar as being in the interests of both nations and the region, the Iranian president added, "There are many potentials for further development of Tehran-Doha relations that have to be tapped."
"Tehran is willing to develop relations with all countries in the region, including Qatar," Rouhani’s official website quoted him as saying.
"There is no obstacle on the path of development of cooperation between the two countries in political and economic fields," he added.
Rouhani also voiced Iran’s readiness to help and cooperate in any move aimed at promoting peace in the region, and expressed hope that regional problems would be resolved through dialogue.
Iran favors an atmosphere of moderation and rationality in international relations, Rouhani reiterated, adding, "The current state of affairs in the region have become complicated because of the US' illegal policies, and they can have negative impacts on regional countries."
The ultimate goal of the United States by curbing Iran's oil exports is to cause instability in the region, Rouhani warned, expressing hope that the Persian Gulf region would witness more stability and security under political cooperation among friendly countries in the region.
On the conditions in Gaza and the Israeli attacks on Palestinian people in the holy month of Ramadan, the president said, "It is essential that Islamic countries prevent the killing of innocent Palestinians through unity and pressurizing the Zionist Regime."
For his part, the Qatari emir said, "The people and government of Qatar appreciate Iran and its stances, and will never forget Tehran's kindness towards them during the hard times."
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also stressed that Doha is ready to enhance relations with Tehran.
On the intensification of discords in the region, he said, "We have told the Americans and our friends many times that these disagreements need to be resolved through discussion and that Qatar is strongly against any action that fans insecurity in the region."
He also stressed that his country would spare no efforts for the establishment of peace in Gaza and condemns the Zionist regime's attacks on Palestinians.
