TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Syrian Arab army units conducted a military operation against terrorists in the north on Friday, inflicting heavy casualties on the ranks of militants in retaliation to violations of the de-escalation zone agreement.

SANA reported that army units carried out intensive operations against al-Nusra Front terrorists who moved from Khan Sheikhoun region in countryside of Idlib province towards the liberated areas in northern Hama countryside, killing or injuring scores of the militants.

The report indicated that the army units thwarted terrorists’ attack on the military points in the areas of al-Hamamiyat and Kafar Nabouda in the northern countryside of Hama, inflicting losses upon them.

The Syrian forces also gained control of the town of Qalaat al-Madiq in the Hama Governorate on Thursday, as they push their way into the country's northwest, capturing two nearby villages of Tal Hawash and al-Karkat.

Footage filmed on Thursday shows damaged buildings in Qalaat al-Madiq in the aftermath of heavy fighting between the Syrian government force and militants.

Qalaat al-Madiq was the nearest militant-held town to the Russian Hmeimim Air Base in Lattakia and had previously been targeted by militants with rocket fire.

The Syrian Army targeted and destroyed militant strongholds during an offensive on the militant held town of Kafr Naboudeh in Hama province on Wednesday.

Footage also shows the strategic town of Kafr Nabudah, which was seized by the Syrian army on Wednesday.
