Big Blast Hits Afghan Capital Kabul (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A large blast rocked the diplomatic district of Kabul on Monday, sending a plume of black smoke over the Afghan capital.
Kabul police officials confirmed there had been an explosion, but gave no immediate details.
Interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said the blast hit a densely populated area where the ministry of defense is located.
According to initial reports, so far 10 people have been killed and over 50 others injured.
The explosion was also near the Afghanistan Football Federation, and Ghazi stadium.
"Some of our colleagues are trapped inside, we have reports of some injuries. We don't know if the attackers have entered the building," Shams Amini, a football federation spokesman said.
"Dozens of wounded were taken to hospitals from today's blast in Kabul," health ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar tweeted, saying the number had reached 65 including nine children.
No group immediately claimed responsibility, and police said they did not yet know the target or nature of the blast.
