Iran Offers Condolences after Ukrainian Plane Crash near Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep sympathy for the deaths of passengers and crew on board a Ukraine International Airlines flight that crashed near Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on Wednesday.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, Seyed Abbas Mousavi offered his deep sympathy to the people of Iran, the Ukrainian government and nation, and the families of victims of the plane crash.

All 179 people on board the Boeing 737, including nine crew, were killed when the jetliner crashed shortly after takeoff from the Imam Khomeini International Airport.

The plane operated by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) was bound for Kiev.

Iranian emergency service officials said the passengers of the doomed plane included 147 Iranians and 32 foreign nationals.
