Iran Ready for Cooperation with Ukraine on Plane Crash Case

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed the country’s readiness for cooperation with Ukraine in the course of investigation into the January crash of a Ukrainian passenger plane near Tehran.

The top Iranian diplomat on Saturday attended a meeting of foreign ministers of the countries involved in the case of the Ukrainian jetliner’s crash on January 8.

In comments at the meeting, held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Zarif expounded on the manner of pursuing the legal and technical aspects of the incident, highlighted Iran’s responsible behavior in dealing with the case, and stressed the need to avert politicization of the issue.

Zarif also expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to work in cooperation with Ukraine to conduct the investigation into the case and handle it legally.

On January 8, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) air defense mistook the Ukrainian passenger plane for a cruise missile and unintentionally shot it down shortly after the jetliner took off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport.

All 176 passengers on board the Boeing 737-800 plane were killed.
