Iran’s Ahmadi Safi into Asia-Oceania Olympic Boxing Quarters
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Omid Ahmadi Safa booked a place at the quarter-final round of the Asia-Oceania Olympic boxing qualifier for Tokyo 2020 on Saturday.
He defeated Murtadha Raad Qasim Al-Sudani of Iraq 3-0 at the 52kg bout.
Ahmadi Safa will meet Uzbekistan's reigning world and Olympic flyweight champion Shakhobidin Zoirov in the quarter-final.
The event was initially due to take place in the Chinese city of Wuhan, but was relocated to Amman, Jordan due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Thirty-five countries and 221 boxers are competing at the event, with 41 men's and 22 women's berths up for grabs at the Olympics.
Iran has sent eight boxers to the event.
