Envoy Lauds Chinese Nation for Helping Iran in Battle against COVID-19
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian ambassador to Beijing expressed his gratitude to the Chinese people for their efforts to help the Islamic Republic contain the outbreak of the new coronavirus, known as COIVD-19.
“The enthusiasm of the Chinese people for sending aid to Iran is admirable,” Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh said on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
“Over the past few days, hundreds of thousands of masks, protective clothing, glasses, caps and respirators have been stored at the (Iranian) embassy,” he added.
The diplomat further said he had requested that a cargo plane be dispatched to Beijing for fetching assistance.
Iran’s administration on Thursday extended the closure of all schools and universities nationwide until the end of the current Iranian year (March 19) as the country is struggling with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
First detected in Wuhan city in central China in December, the virus has spread to more than 100 countries.
The death toll from COVID-19 outbreak in Iran has risen to 291. Meanwhile, more than 2,700 coronavirus patients have recovered from the respiratory disease and discharged from hospitals so far.
More than 4,200 people have died of COVID-19 across the world, and more than 113,000 people have also been infected, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). About 64,000 people have also recovered from the illness globally.
